Marvel’s Avengers gets its final update, unlocking all the cosmetics for everyone-

The final update for Marvel’s Avengers is now live, meaning players now have full access to “nearly all” of the game’s content, including outfits, emotes, takedowns, and nameplates, plus a special “Founder’s Gift” for everyone who’s earned at least one achievement or trophy by April 1.

The end for Marvel’s Avengers came in January, when Crystal Dynamics threw in the towel after more than two years of trying and failing to find a sustainable audience. The game stumbled right out of the gate—we said it “didn’t exactly look superheroic” in our first preview in 2019—and it didn’t get much better from there: Fans were confused by platform-exclusive content releases, a 2020 beta test left us cold, and by the end of 2021, Square Enix conceded that it was a “disappointing” rel…

Dark and Darker developer is ‘looking to make amends’ because its free-to-play model is ‘not well designed’-

Dark and Darker’s return to Steam should have been cause for celebration. After a legal dispute with Nexon saw it removed from the platform in 2023, developer Ironmace was finally able to get it back on the store last week. Unexpectedly, it also shed its price, relaunching instead as a free-to-play deal. And that’s where the trouble began.

See, Dark and Darker isn’t really free to play. What free players get is a restrictive mode that offers a stripped down version of the full Dark and Darker experience. It’s not uncommon for free-to-play games to restrict free players in various ways, though many simply sell cosmetics and conveniences to earn revenue. But the free-to-play version of Dark and Darker feels more like a demo.

Unless you buy the full version…

F.E.A.R. inspired shooter Trepang2 blasts onto Steam this June-

Trepang2, the spectacular FPS heavily inspired by Monolith’s F.E.A.R, kneeslides its way onto Steam on June 21.

The release date’s reveal was accompanied by a new trailer providing an extensive look at Trepang2’s flashy, bloody combat, as well as a few glimpses of the game’s story. You play a supersoldier known simply as “106” who has escaped from a research institute belonging to the shady Horizon corporation. Rescued by a paramilitary organisation with aspirations of taking down Horizon, you’re sent back to exact vengeance on the people who imprisoned you.

All of which serves as a loose framework for some delightfully excessive action. Like the game upon which it is based, Trepang2 laces its shooting with over-the-top effects. Any given encounter will fill the air with spa…

Soulslike dev accused of reusing FromSoftware animations-

Update: The developer has removed the assets, and Epic said that it can’t guarantee that asset marketplace sellers are following the rules.

Bleak Faith: Forsaken is a recently released soulslike from indie developer Archangel that resembles a cybergoth take on the FromSoftware formula. How close it is to FromSoftware games, particularly Elden Ring, has become a point of contention as, since its release on March 10, players have begun pointing out just how familiar some of its animations are.

For instance, here’s a comparison of Bleak Faith’s claymore attacks with those of Elden Ring’s uchigatana and straight sword. And here’s a compilation of more animation similarities, including a character who seems to have some of Malenia’s moves, and another who app…

The Proteus Controller is a $299 modular input device for players with disabilities and Microsoft has more good news for accessibility-

As part of the company’s recognition of Global Accessibility Awareness day, Microsoft has announced a number of accessibility updates for Xbox and PC gamers, including a preorder release announcement for the ByoWave Proteus modular controller, a modular “snap and play” peripheral designed for gamers with disabilities created as part of the Designed for Xbox program.

The controller offers both PC and Xbox support, and has been designed to allow gamers the ability to snap together its various components in “over 100 million traditional and custom configuration and LED lighting variations”. That should mean that players who have difficulty using regular gaming controllers are able to reconfigure the device into something more comfortable and easier to use than a standard gaming devic…

This $1,300 MSI RTX 4070 gaming laptop deal is a portable gaming steal-

This precise MSI Katane 15 gaming laptop was already in our list of the very best gaming laptop deals currently available. But one of the best just got even better, as Newegg has just shaved off another $40.

So, what do you get for your grand total of $1,319? This is a 15.6-inch model with a 144Hz IPS panel rocking 1,920 by 1,080 pixels. To that you can add an Intel Core i7 12650H CPU.

OK, that’s a 12th Gen rather than the latest 13th Gen Intel chip. But we’ll let you in on a little secret here. Those two generations are architecturally pretty much identical.

So, what matters is that the 12650H rocks six Performance cores, which is plenty for gaming, plus another four Efficient cores, just to help with battery life and bump up the multi-threaded throughput to a t…

Street Fighter 6 has some terrifying ambitious sales goals from Capcom—10M copies-

I have no doubt in my mind that Street Fighter 6 is going to be Capcom’s most successful instalment to date. It’s had a pretty transparent development cycle and the hype around it from newcomers and veterans alike is bound to secure its place as one of the greats. But is it going to be successful enough to sell 10 million copies? I sure hope so, because that’s how many units Capcom’s president wants to push.

Haruhiro Tsujimoto sat down with Famitsu to talk about the industry, its library of games and what the future for Capcom holds. When it came to talking about Street Fighter, Tsujimoto said the developer had “no hesitation” in investing in Street Fighter 6. Big investment means the expectation of big results, with Tsujimoto adding: “If we can make use of our experience in the d…

After nearly 10 years, Australian developer Samurai Punk is shutting down-

Melbourne-based developer Samurai Punk has announced that it will cease operations after almost ten years of making games. The company’s statement, attributed to studio directors Winston Tang and Nicholas McDonnell, does not provide a specific reason for the decision, but it comes amid a wave of studio closures and layoffs in the industry.

Samurai Punk’s debut was the 2014 split screen FPS, Screencheat, which enshrined the titular Goldeneye 64 party foul as the game’s central mechanic. Enemy player models were permanently invisible, so looking over at other players’ screens was the only way to track opponents.

Screencheat grew out of a game jam project by McDonnell, with the initial concept being a puzzle-based competitive multiplayer experience. Lacking the resources to imp…

Mortal Kombat 1 won’t have crossplay at launch, and it’s unclear whether it’ll eventually come to PC at all-

After quietly removing references to crossplay—or “Kross-Play” as it’s been dubbed—from its Steam page earlier this month, NetherRealm Studios has confirmed that Mortal Kombat 1 will be launching without the feature.

In a Twitter post, the Mortal Kombat 1 account revealed: “Launch is just around the corner and we can’t wait for everyone to sink their teeth into #MK1. Regarding Kross-Play, it will not be available at launch, but know we are hard at work implementing the feature into the game and it will be koming post launch.”

The inclusion of cross-play in Mortal Kombat 1 has been a bit of a confusing one, to say the least. A tweet from Wario64 back in May shows that an FAQ on the game’s website stated that NetherRealm planned to add crossplay and cross-progressi…
